WHAT WE BELIEVE

Whereas we are in affiliation with the United Pentecostal Church International and the United Pentecostal Church Atlantic District, we accept the following articles of faith for our Christian beliefs and conduct.
1. We believe the Holy Bible to be the only inspired Word of God that we have today. Therefore, all doctrine, faith, and instruction for the Church must find its basis in the Bible.
2 Timothy 3:16-17- All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17] That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
2. We believe that there is one Eternal and Almighty God, who is Creator of all things. He is holy, unchanging, omnipotent [all-powerful], omnipresent [everywhere], and omniscient [all-knowing] and that He is a Spirit. God has revealed Himself as the Father in being our Creator, as the Son of God in redeeming humanity from sin and death, and the Holy Spirit which has been promised to dwell within us.
Deuteronomy 6:4 – Hear O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord
Isaiah 44:6-8 – Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. 7] And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? And the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them. 8] Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have I not told thee from that time, and have declared it? Ye are even my witnesses. Is thee a God beside me? Yea, there is no God; I know not any.
James 2:19 – Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
Ephesians 4:5 – One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
John 4:24 – God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.
3. We believe that this one living and true God was manifested in a body of flesh in Jesus Christ to save us from our sins.
1 Timothy 3:16 – And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
Matthew 1:21-23 – And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. 22] Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23] Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
John 1:1 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.
John 1:14 – And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
That this true and living God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself [not “God the Son” was in Christ, but the Almighty God was in Christ] and that there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
2 Corinthians 5:19 - To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
1 Timothy 2:5 – For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
4. We believe that man was created innocent and holy, but through disobedience sin entered into the world and the human family. Although every human being has tremendous potential for good, each of us is marred by our inborn sinful nature and its actions, so that we are separated from God and eternally lost outside of the redemptive word of Christ at the cross.
Romans 3:23 – For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Romans 5:12 – Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so, death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
5. We believe the Gospel that Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that He was buried and rose again according to the scriptures in order to pay the penalty of sin which required death and shed His blood to provide forgiveness and remission [pardon] for our sins.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4 – For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4] And that he was buried and that he rose again by the third day according to the scriptures:
6. We believe that salvation can never be earned or deserved based honour own merit, but must be received “by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 – For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9] Not of works, lest any man should boast.
7. We believe that salvation from sin and being “born again” into the Kingdom of God comes through obedience to the plan of salvation which involved: A] Faith toward God; B] Repentance of our sins; C] Baptism in water by immersion in the name of Jesus for the remission of our sins; D] Receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the initial evidence of speaking in unknown tongues.
Hebrews 6:1-2 – Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God 2] Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgement.
John 3:5 – Jesus Answered, Verily, verily I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God.
Acts 2:38 – Then Peter said unto them, repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 2:4 – And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them the utterance.
8. We believe that every Christian must follow the teaching and instruction provided in the Bible for holy and righteous living while we continue to live in this world.
Titus 2:11 – 12- For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12] Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
Hebrews 12:14 – Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
9. We believe in the personal and imminent coming of our Lord Jesus Christ who will catch away His Church from this earth and take them to the place He has prepared for them in Heaven. There will be a resurrection of both the saints who have dies in Christ and those who are still living at the time of His return.
John 14:1-3 – Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2] In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3] And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
Acts 1:9-11 – And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. 10] And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold two men stood by them in white apparel; 11] Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 – For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17] Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so, shall we ever be with the Lord.
10. We believe that there are two eternal states for all humanity. Heaven is the place which the Lord Jesus has prepared for the righteous whose names are found written in the Lamb’s Book of Life where they will live eternally in the presence of God. Hell is the place which has been prepared for all those who have sinned and their names are not found in the Lamb’s Book of Life who will exist forever in eternal punishment in a place of torment and pain being forever separated from God.
Revelation 20:14-15 – And death and hell were cast into the Lake of Fire. This is the second death. 15] And whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the Lake of Fire.
Revelation 21:7-8 – He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 8] But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and the murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Revelation 21:27 – And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
11. We believe in Divine healing in the physical body, but not to the exclusion of those who are weak in faith and take herbs.
Mark 16:17-18 – And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18] They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
James 5:14-15 – Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15] And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
12. We believe in the nine gifts of the Spirit, and that they are for today and should be coveted earnestly.
1 Corinthians 12:8-11 – For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9] To another faith by the same Spirit, to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10] To another the working of miracles, to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues; 11] But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
